How we can help

Looking at the whole picture, not just the jaw

The jaw joint works closely with the muscles of the face, neck and upper back. Clenching, grinding, stress, posture and old injuries can all leave it irritated and tight.

At your TMJ assessment, we look at how your jaw opens and closes, along with your neck and posture, then treat with gentle hands-on techniques, soft tissue work and exercises you can do at home. TMJ visits are available with Dr. Meghan, Dr. Chuck and Dr. Nicholas. No referral is needed.

TMJ care may help if you have

  • Jaw pain or clicking
  • Headaches or ear pressure linked to jaw tension
  • Clenching or grinding
  • Tightness through the face, neck or shoulders

Get medical care right away for sudden jaw pain with chest pain or shortness of breath, or if you can’t open or close your mouth.

FAQ

TMJ and jaw pain questions

Can a chiropractor help with TMJ?

Chiropractors assess and treat the muscles and joints of the jaw, neck and upper back, which can all play a part in TMJ symptoms like jaw pain, clicking and tension headaches. Your assessment helps us understand what is contributing to your symptoms.

What happens at a TMJ new patient visit?

Your 60-minute TMJ visit includes a detailed history and an assessment of how your jaw opens and closes, along with your neck and posture, so we can talk through a plan with you. A TMJ new patient visit is $120.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. You can book directly with Dr. Meghan, Dr. Chuck or Dr. Nicholas. No referral is needed.

Should I still see my dentist?

Yes. If you clench or grind your teeth, your dentist can check your teeth and talk to you about options like a night guard. Chiropractic care can work alongside your dental care.

Is TMJ treatment covered by insurance?

Chiropractic care is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health plans include chiropractic coverage. We offer direct billing, so check your plan for your coverage.
