Naturopathic Medicine Cabinet

Does a cold have you feeling down? Let’s take a look at what can bring you back up to your healthy self!

I absolutely love botanical medicine! There are so many great herbs including echinacea, elderberry, glycyrrhiza, marshmallow, lobelia and goldenseal—just to name a few—that can have such a significant impact on the duration of a cold and the severity of symptoms.

Below is a list of what I typically stock my medicine cabinet with:

Throat spray (echinacea or bee propolis): this not only helps to destroy viruses in the tissue but also helps soothes raw tissue (sore throat).

Deep Immune tincture: helps to fortify the immune system; I typically use this as a preventative.

Anti-cold or English Ivy cough syrups: helps to soothe chronic coughing

Oil of oregano: this should only be used for a short period of time as an antimicrobial and should always be used with a probiotic to help replenish the good bacteria that is lost from not only the infection, but also the oil of oregano itself.

Botanical teas: these can include echinacea, marshamallow and glycyrrhiza to help soothe sore throats and repair tissue damaged from inflammation.

So, the next time you feel a cold creeping up on you,

try getting a headstart on these remedies to nip it in the bud!
