Fascial Remodeling Massage with Asha Mokrosz, RMT, CDT, HBA

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the connective tissue that holds our body together.  Imagine the layers of an onion, fascia runs superficial (below the skin) to deep (bone level).  It is a 3D network that included the sheets, bands and sacs found in the body as well as liagments, bursae, tendons and tissues of the nervous system.

Our fascia is designed to move, glide and stretch but when it hardens and sticks together it results in various unwanted symptoms.   There are multiple causes of fascial restriction.

Causes of Fascial Restriction:

  • Trauma /accidents
  • Old/unresolved injuries
  • Recurring injuries
  • Postural & mental habits
  • A sedentary lifestyle
  • Overuse and repetitive motions
  • Long term illness

Symptoms of Fascial Restriction:

  • Long term pain
  • Congestion and unresolved swelling
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Decreased flexibility
  • Joint and movement restriction
  • Poor breathing/shortness of breath
  • Poor posture and mental state

A Fascial Remodeling treatment will open, soften and release the restrictions in the fascia with the help of positional and conscious breathing techniques.  In most cases trigger point therapy, deeper muscular work, General Swedish Massage and cupping is combined with the Fascial Remodeling technique to prepare the client for fascial work.  This is primarily done to relax the client into this style of treatment, and to prepare them to absorb any discomfort in the body that they may feel at the start.

Fascial Remodeling treatment works at the level of the tension, restriction and pain already found in the tissue.  As the fascial layers soften and open, the discomfort is reduced and eliminated.

The number of sessions needed depends upon the issue, how long it has been present and the client’s tolerance for the depth of the work.
